How we started
At the age of 32 and after giving birth to her third child, Brittany Howard went into severe heart failure. After 3 weeks in the CV ICU, it was deemed Brittany's only chance at survival was a heart transplantation. With a three week old baby and two boys at home, Brittany received the ultimate gift of life October 2018. After a successful transplant, all Brittany wanted was to be in her own home with her husband and children. She was fortunate that her transplant center, the Medical University of South Carolina, was only 10 minutes from her hometown. She was saddened to discover that most transplant recipients are several hours from their home; thus, spend the difficult post-operative period living in an extended stay hotel for 3 months. Since that time, it has been Brittany's mission to help support fellow transplant recipients in the huge financial burden that transplant is. It is also Brittany's hope to emotionally support other transplant recipients throughout the entire transplant process. From Brittany's experience, Bless Our Heart was formed.
EVERY 10 MINUTES, another person is added to the national organ transplant waiting list. Twenty lives are lost every day due to the lack of organs available for transplantation.
